Hatfield 1603 Font
Blaine Pate Studio
Description
Introducing Hatfield 1603 : a roman and italic font family traced from King James’s Daemonologie, printed in London by Arnold Hatfield in 1603. The king’s own dialogue on witchcraft, magic and spirits was first printed in Edinburgh in 1597 and reprinted in London the year he took the English throne, set in a sturdy roman with a sweeping italic for its preface. Every letter of the family comes from those pages, ink spread and wear included, scanned from the copy held at the Wellcome Collection, and each one comes in up to four printed versions that rotate as you type, so no line ever looks set by a machine. Perfect for book covers, album art, posters, labels and anything that should look printed by hand four hundred years ago.
